  At the top of this drawing, you'll see two leaf-like forms. In every drawing or gouache painting, I add this as my signature. I call it a "pip". It started back in the early 2010's. This piece is titled: "Spring Puff", and was created using a layering technique starting with India ink pen, acrylic paint, encaustic medium (beeswax) and oil paint. My idea, in this piece, was to create a feeling of early spring, when the colors are quite light. I adore spring. Do you? In order to make sense of the world, we often see the whole before the parts (this is called the Gestalt Theory). For example, from afar, this could look like a raspberry. Up close, a bunch of fans? Fires? Spiky random shapes? I'll let you figure that out. What is funny, is I never intended this to look like a raspberry. It just showed up. I enjoy this. Decorated ovals seem to be my thing as of late. It's fun to see how I can make each one different, while making a coherent composition. I would love to make a printmaking plate for each doily, and printed them in various arrangements. I"ll keep you posted on this.
