Painting "Swim Puff (relish)"

Image
In the 2000's, there was this beautiful design store in NW Portland called Relish. I adored the colors, objects and fabrics, so much so that I made a painting inspired by the very place. Although Relish no longer exists, this painting still does. Love, Cynthia ❤️ "Swim Puff (relish)" India ink pen, acrylic paint, encaustic medium, oil paint on birch board 14 x 22 in $1300 See it here on my website: http://tiny.cc/swim_puff_relish

Painting "Fraternal Foliage (ocean)"

Image
There are times when you have the desire to break out of the norm. In "Fraternal Foliage (ocean)", I would normally paint it on a square board, but in this case, I thought "Round shapes, round board, yes!" I made six paintings, all on oval boards. Here, I tried to find colors that reminded me of the ocean, hence the title. With love, Cynthia❤️ Check this baby out at: http://tiny.cc/ff_ocean_mosser

Decorative Amoeba

Image
Sometimes drawings just happen. In this case, it seems to be some sort of decorative biomorphic shape. Have a great day. Cynthia 🔴 See more biomorphic art at www.cynthiamosser.com

Painting: "Princess II" by Cynthia Mosser

Image
Not only do plants inspire me, but decorative elements as well. Ovals, eggs, swirls, crowns, they're all fair game, and architecture is where I originally found inspiration. We may overlook these little bits of fun on the edge of a cornice, but having them there, makes for a surprise when you really look.  This gouache (matte watercolor) painting is called "Princess II".  9 x 7 inches. $325. Includes an 8-ply mat and acid-free backing. See it here at: tiny.cc/princess_2_mosser Love, Cynthia 💓 Image source: user6702303

Ovals are my Favorite Shape

Image
I am going to go out on a limb and say that everyone has a favorite shape. Round, rectilinear, trapezoid. My favorite shape is an oval, like an egg, which reminds me of the idea life or potential. The question is why. This drawing is a riff on "Puff Paradise", which also incorporates ovals (and swirls). Let me know your favorite shape! Painting "Puff Paradise I"

Image
Nature always provides the best color schemes. "Puff Paradise I" is inspired by the colors of a watermelon: Pink, green and red. Of course the shapes are oval (like a watermelon), but the rest is a playful composition of using biomorphic shapes and architectural swirls. Painted using gouache (matte watercolor), and frame-ready, as it is matted to 11 x 14 in. $325. Design Inspired by Enrique Gillet

Image
Sometimes you find inspiration from other designers. In this case, Enrique Gillet's work inspired me. Designs from the 1920's book Vines Decorativas shows gorgeous Art Nouveau work, and I love anything that incorporates design and plant-like elements. Have a great day. Love, Cynthia ❤️ See more of my illustrations at: www.cynthiamosser.com/illustrations

Painting "Fraternal Foliage (green)" is an Ode to Nature

Image
Bringing the outside inside, is the theme of Fraternal Foliage (green). I grew up around lush Pacific Northwest greenery where leaves are abundant, so I made a painting as an ode to plants. On Repetition...

Image
Repetition is something humans appreciate, whether it the pattern on our favorite shirt, or even our heartbeat. The certainty of it creates comfort. In this drawing, I repeated the same shape, but tried to jazz it up with line and value. ❤️ Cynthia See more pattern-like designs at: www.cynthiamosser.com #cynthiamosser #art #repetition #pattern #shape #surfacedesign
