I KNOW THIS: YOU deserve infectious, joyous life, and I am willing to take a stand for YOU in this endeavor through the experience of my paintings. Yes, a painting is a non-moving, inert object, but the reflection, energy, shapes and activity of looking at something colorful, beautiful and original is what I call life-giving. It is always there, and always with you. This piece is part of an exclusive series of seven gouache pieces and costs $725. You can view it here: https://www.cynthiamosser.com/paintings?aa_piece=boop-cynthia-mosser Boop, 2022 Gouache (matte watercolor) on Museum Board (thick acid-free mat paper) 10 x 8 inches $725 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, referrals, or would like to talk about commissions. There are times when paintings can represent a period of time in one's life. For me, this represents the internal discombobulation of January to May of this year (2022). You see, my disabled brother became even more disabled, then got fixed (surgery), then recuperated, and then moved to a new foster care home. Why this matters is that I am the only family member who can advocate for him, so it felt like a real journey. Normally I never "struggle" with a painting, but this one I went over and over again, changing my mind, changing colors, changing shapes. It felt like the time in which I was concerned about my brother was manifesting itself with this piece. Now that I was able to help in getting him resettled into a stable living situation, I can breathe a bit easier. What did I learn from this familial situation? That I am lucky to be able to help my brother, that he teaches me how to ask for what I desire because he is so good at doing this himself, and that I too have ...

I adore this quote by American artist, Helen Frankenthaler. It truly describes the visual experience of looking at abstract art, especially complex ones with lots of shapes and color (like mine). My goal is to give the viewer a rich, and whimsical path to fun and happiness. Sometimes drawings just happen. In this case, it seems to be some sort of decorative biomorphic shape. Have a great day. Cynthia 🔴 See more biomorphic art at www.cynthiamosser.com

Fraternal Foliage (glow) What the Fraternal Foliage series is all about Fraternal Foliage (glow) is part of my "Fraternal Foliage" series, which I began in 2005. I love pattern and shape, and it all started with playing around in my sketchbook. I also grew up around around massive amounts of greenery in the Pacific Northwest (Portland, OR). Surrounding my house were layers of English ivy, and I was always under a canopy of by tall trees. In essence, the shapes in my painting are an abstract riff on dense leaf-like forms. Finally, I create movement by grouping, and strategically-placed bright color. The painting itself is layered: I start with a drawing in the background, then add paint, and finally beeswax (encaustic medium) as the last layer. With a metal stylus, I write into the beeswax, which creates grooves. These grooves are then filled in with burnt umber (brown) oil paint, as well as white oil paint.  See more ...

Circular forms represent eternity, as they have no beginning or end. This circular form is made up of biomorphic shapes from my mind, and these I could create ad infinitum. Love, Cynthia ❤️ See more illustrations at: cynthiamosser.com/illustrations

Sometimes shapes and forms just fall out of my pen. The truth is that I saw a mirror in this shape, and nearly fell over. I had to find a way to incorporate it into a drawing.
