Vacation Loops

Image
Sometimes when you're on vacation, you take twists and turns, and try the road you never thought you'd take, and it ends up beautifully. You see things and learn things you never thought possible, and realize everything you do is here for you, and your highest good. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to travel, and I am grateful for what I see and learn and the individuals I meet. A Pilgrimage to See South Moravian Folk Art - 2022

Image
Visiting South Moravia & Czech Folk Art Styles In the summer of 2005, my Czech friend and her husband (Ivana and Petr C.) took me to see a South Moravian village called Strážnice in the Czech Republic. (Little did I know what was in store.) As an artist who loves European folk art ornamentation and anything whimsical, seeing art painted on architecture seemed like a revelation. I had seen folk art on Swiss mountain villas before, but nothing like this dense, colorful, floral and almost unbridled design. It's safe to say I was in love. It wasn't until 17 years later, in the summer of 2022, that I could return to get a deeper sense of the varying Southern Moravian folk art styles that vary by village, and there are many villages to explore. Painting by Marie Holubíčková (from Strážnice, CZ) South Moravia (also known as Slovácko) (Image by the  Moravsk á Kr á sa  Foundation) The southeast corner of the Czech Republic (or Czechia) is called Moravian Slovácko. It's a cultura

Blue Drawing | Fraternal Foliage (grouping 2)

Image
This is a drawing to keep your spirits lifted. This past week (July 24-31, 2022) in Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA, it was very emotional, as it was warm, very warm for 8  days straight.  It taught me to stay in the present and  appreciate what I have.  Additionally, it taught me to be cause in the matter of helping the environment. Sending love, Cynthia ❤️ "Fraternal Foliage (grouping 2)," 2022 Gel pen on acid-free paper 10 x 8 in $200 If you'd like to buy this piece, below is a payment link: https://buy.stripe.com/dR6003gQR92HfT2fZe

Handsy Flowers Drawing

Image
This is my go-to shape: biomorphic, hand-like, flower-like, and always curve-like. If I could tell you why this shape comes from my brain/hand I would. It's a form I've drawn/doodled for many years. This must mean I am working something out. I wonder what it could be. Oval Viennese Doily

Image
When I visited in Vienna in 2004, I picked up this doily from a café. I was served a coffee and soda water on a silver oval tray, and underneath was this oval doily. I was absolutely in love. Maybe it was the oval, which is like an egg. Maybe it was the feminine lace-like quality, or maybe it was the the dedication to a superfluous drink tray enhancement. It didn't matter. This spoke to me, and I've kept it in my studio ever since. BOOP, 2022 | Taking a STAND for YOU

Image
I KNOW THIS: YOU deserve infectious, joyous life, and I am willing to take a stand for YOU in this endeavor through the experience of my paintings. It is always there, and always with you. This piece is part of an exclusive series of seven gouache pieces and costs $725. Paisley Daisley Painting

Image
There are times when paintings can represent a period of time in one's life. For me, this represents the internal discombobulation of January to May of this year (2022). You see, my disabled brother became even more disabled, then got fixed (surgery), then recuperated, and then moved to a new foster care home. Why this matters is that I am the only family member who can advocate for him, so it felt like a real journey. Normally I never "struggle" with a painting, but this one I went over and over again, changing my mind, changing colors, changing shapes. It felt like the time in which I was concerned about my brother was manifesting itself with this piece. Now that I was able to help in getting him resettled into a stable living situation, I can breathe a bit easier. What did I learn from this familial situation? That I am lucky to be able to help my brother, that he teaches me how to ask for what I desire because he is so good at doing this himself, and that I too have
