In 2005, my Czech friends took me to this beautiful town in Southern Moravia called Straznice. I had never seen anything like it: They paint flowers on buildings, and have a yearly folk festival! The colors they most often use on buildings are red, green, blue and yellow. When I returned to the USA, I decided to make a painting called "Folk Twister", which represented the feeling of being in this town. In the 2000's, there was this beautiful design store in NW Portland called Relish. I adored the colors, objects and fabrics, so much so that I made a painting inspired by the very place. Although Relish no longer exists, this painting still does.
