Decorated ovals seem to be my thing as of late. It's fun to see how I can make each one different, while making a coherent composition. I would love to make a printmaking plate for each doily, and printed them in various arrangements. I"ll keep you posted on this. I am going to go out on a limb and say that everyone has a favorite shape. Round, rectilinear, trapezoid. My favorite shape is an oval, like an egg, which reminds me of the idea life or potential. The question is why. This drawing is a riff on "Puff Paradise", which also incorporates ovals (and swirls). Let me know your favorite shape!   The idea of filling up every bit of space with decoration is a propensity of mine. In art, this is called "horror vacui" or fear of empty space. It's the opposite of the minimalist aesthetic. I like to contrast my extensive designs with white space so the viewer's eyes can rest. Still, decoration is fun, and I adore fun!
