SHALE GAS Image - Bloomberg Businessweek

Image
Natural gas is the theme. Igniting our economy is the idea. Explosion is the image. A great graphic using radiation, and contrast of similar values to grab our attention. Image source: businessweek.com

ROSE SKINNER - Installations

Image
Rose Skinner , an Australian installation artist, creates vibrantly hued visual cacophonies of amalgamated objects which creates a delightful, if not jarring visual experience. Her installation of I Wish I Were in Wonderland is an example of my childhood fantasy playroom on acid. Image source: roseskinner.com

GREENfeathers Succulents

Image
Meant for roofs tops or garden modules, this Oregon-based company suggests succulent mixtures for a variety of color combinations and textures.

Joe SEPPI's Posters

Image
(Portland, OR) Artist Joe Seppi's self-commissioned poster campaign via his website The Victory Garden of Tomorrow.com and etsy.com is, as he says, "An exercise in blending WPA-era eat-your-peas propaganda with the awe-inspiring 1939 World's Fair (motto: "The World of Tomorrow") and its big-vision, world reshaping ambition." What I love about his posters is their use of color, strong graphic qualities and futuristic elements. Image source: etsy.com/shop/joeseppi

Matt COSBY polyurethane piece

Artist/painter Matt COSBY created this polyurethane & aluminum, 9in x 12 3/4in piece as a portrait of artist TJ Norris. An excellent abstraction using pointillistic or divisionistic diamonds. Image source: matt cosby

GLOWING color

Image
The New York Times displayed montage of performance artist Marina Abramovic's star-shaped house. This image is part of a 370-square-foot translucent cube that contains the kitchen, the dressing room, the laundry room and a guest bathroom. The BG/GREEN interior with the PINK light fixture is fantastic. Image source: newyorktimes.com

Kristin Cammermeyer at FONTANELLE Gallery

Image
This tiny work on paper by Kristin Cammermeyer stood out among a grouping of smaller pieces at Portland's entertaining, trendy and amusing Fontanelle Gallery . I love the composition of tightly-squeezed and brightly-colored rectangles against achromatic background lines. Additionally, hints of dimension create interest thanks to a few shooting shapes along the edge. Stacks-II , 2008 Spray enamel, Opaque pen & pen on paper $180 (approx 5" x 7")

Burton Beanie

Image
Burton has created a truly awesome ski hat! (Both colorful and casually scruffy.) Image source: burton.com

Mes Amies - Nice Design - Ad

Image
I have yet to visit Mes Amies , a women's clothing store in McMinville, Oregon. Their ads and design elements, however, are excellent. I adore the pulled curtains and tassels. Image source: mesamies.com

Catalina Estrada - Masterful Color

Image
Nylon magazine displayed this ad illustrated by Spanish artist Catalina Estrada in their February 2008 issue. I applaud the artist choice as an ad for Zune Originals (a Microsoft ipod where you can pick your own design for it's back). I adore her masterful use of color and her intricate use of folk art-inspired decorative elements. If my brain could scream any more excitement about this piece, it would explode! Rigorous Geometry

Image
Martha Stewart's garden is truly a work of rectilinear design. Aside from the intensely organized rows of varied vegetation, the bird's eye view yields some excellent greens. Photo credit unknown www.marthastewart.com
