My Top Nine for 2020

Image
This pretty much sums up my year 2020! Sure, there were low points, but there were many more high. I have to admit, for an introvert, this is pretty good. I was able to post regularly, even though it was often uncomfortable (putting myself out there)! Here are my top nine for 2020! What are yours? Happy

“Happy New Year” is where I started, but illustrating “happy” seemed like more fun. Love, Cynthia See more illustrations at www.cynthiamosser.com #cynthiamosser #illustration #happy #word #fun

A story about "Fraternal Foliage (glow)"

Image
Fraternal Foliage (glow) What the Fraternal Foliage series is all about Fraternal Foliage (glow) is part of my "Fraternal Foliage" series, which I began in 2005. I love pattern and shape, and it all started with playing around in my sketchbook. I also grew up around around massive amounts of greenery in the Pacific Northwest (Portland, OR). Surrounding my house were layers of English ivy, and I was always under a canopy of by tall trees. In essence, the shapes in my painting are an abstract riff on dense leaf-like forms. Finally, I create movement by grouping, and strategically-placed bright color. The painting itself is layered: I start with a drawing in the background, then add paint, and finally beeswax (encaustic medium) as the last layer. With a metal stylus, I write into the beeswax, which creates grooves. These grooves are then filled in with burnt umber (brown) oil paint, as well as white oil paint.  See more ...

Gouache Painting "Egg Aura II"

Image
Working small has its advantages. You have an intimate world to control, a small space, where everything is within reach. This size is my comfort zone. Working larger makes me figuratively and literally stretch. Here's to working within, and outside of your comfort zone. Hand Illustration

Image
The idea of filling up every bit of space with decoration is a propensity of mine. In art, this is called "horror vacui" or fear of empty space. It's the opposite of the minimalist aesthetic. I like to contrast my extensive designs with white space so the viewer's eyes can rest. Still, decoration is fun, and I adore fun! Love, Cynthia Consider a commissioned hand, similar to this, only your hand! The size would be 7 x 5.5 in. $97. Send me a photo, and we'll start there. Succulent Puff II

Image
Christmas is around the corner, and the only connection this piece has to it are the colors. Red and green, which are complementary colors, intensify each other when they are near each other. Even though I didn't have Christmas in mind when I created it (actually, succulents), I chose these colors to create a fun combination of bright and dark.
